What is the Magic Clean lint filter and does it need manual cleaning?

The Magic Clean lint filter is located at the bottom of the washer basket and is self-cleaning. During agitation, wash and rinse water passes over the filter to separate lint from the water, and the lint is then spun away during the spin part of the cycle. If your washer drains into a tub, you should remove any lint collected in the tub or strainer. (Page 12)
