How should I prepare my washer if I'm going on vacation or not using it for an extended period?

If you will not be using the washer for an extended period, unplug the washer or disconnect power, turn off the water supply to prevent unintended flooding from pressure surges, and leave the door slightly open for ventilation. If storing the washer in freezing conditions, winterize it by adding 1 qt (1 L) of R.V.-type antifreeze to the drum and running a Drain/Spin cycle before shutting off faucets and disconnecting hoses.
