How often should I clean the dishwasher filter?

For light to average use, the filter system should be cleaned 3–6 times a year, and for heavy use, 8–12 times a year. You should also clean the filter after washing loads with large amounts of food soils or heavy starch content, like potatoes and pasta. (Page 36)
