Why does my coffee basket overflow during brewing?

The coffee basket may overflow due to several reasons: if using pre-ground coffee, ensure it is drip coffee grind and not too fine (never use espresso grind); check that only one paper filter is used; ensure either the gold tone or paper filter is used but not both; check that the gold tone filter mesh is clear; clean the coffee grinds chute; or adjust the grinder to a coarser setting if it is set too fine.
