Why is my espresso tasting burnt?

The burnt taste can be caused by the type of coffee being used, so try using different brands of coffee. Another common cause is using the steam function just before pouring an espresso shot—allow time for the thermoblock to purge steam and cool down before pouring. The STEAM LIGHT should have finished flashing and the READY LIGHT should be fully illuminated before brewing. (Page 22)
