What safety precautions must I follow before performing any maintenance or repairs?

Before performing any type of maintenance or service, disengage all controls and stop the engine, then wait until all moving parts have come to a complete stop. Disconnect the spark plug wire and ground it against the engine to prevent unintended starting, and always wear safety glasses. Additionally, disengage the PTO, move the shift lever into neutral, set the parking brake, and remove the key before beginning any work. (Page 21)
