How should I load knives and silverware in the dishwasher?

Load sharp knives with the handles up to reduce the risk of cut-type injuries, while fork and knife handles should also face up to protect your hands when unloading. Place spoons in the basket with handles down, and mix knives, forks, and spoons so they don't nest together. Small plastic items such as measuring spoons should go in the bottom of the silverware basket with silverware placed on top. (Pages 7, 15)
