What surface should I place the humidifier on?

Always place the humidifier on a firm, flat surface. A waterproof mat or pad is recommended for use under the humidifier, especially on wood floors. Never place it on a rug, carpet, or finished floor that may be damaged by water or moisture exposure. (Page 2, 4)
