How do I winterize my dishwasher if it won't be used for an extended time?

Turn off the water supply and pour one gallon of nontoxic RV or Marine water system antifreeze into the bottom of the tub. Set for any wash cycle, close the door, and allow the dishwasher to run for 3 minutes to distribute antifreeze into the water system. Before putting the unit back into use, antifreeze must be removed by filling both detergent cups with dishwasher detergent and operating through a complete normal cycle without dishes.
