Why is detergent left in the cup after the cycle is done?

Detergent may be too old and should be discarded and replaced with fresh detergent. Another cause is improper loading — items protruding from the front of the bottom rack can block the detergent cup from opening during the wash cycle. Check that dishes are loaded correctly so the dispenser can open freely. (Page 14)
