Why is detergent left in the dispenser cup after the cycle?

Detergent left in the cup is often caused by old detergent that does not dissolve properly — discard it and use fresh detergent. It can also happen if dishes are loaded incorrectly, specifically if items protrude from the front of the bottom rack and prevent the detergent cup from opening during the wash cycle. (Page 14)
