How often should I clean the lint screen, and how do I do it?

You should clean the lint screen before every load. Pull the lint screen straight up, roll the lint off with your fingers, and push it firmly back into place — do not rinse or wash the screen, as wet lint is hard to remove. Additionally, the lint screen should be cleaned with a nylon brush every 6 months to remove detergent and fabric softener residue buildup that can cause longer drying times. (Page 13)
