What are the signs that my filter needs cleaning?

The filters may need to be cleaned when there are visible objects or soils on the Upper Filter Assembly, there is degradation in cleaning performance with soils still present on dishes, dishes feel gritty to the touch, or there is smell or odors coming from the dishwasher.
