Why is my coffee overflowing from the basket?

Coffee can overflow due to several reasons: the carafe is not inserted, the amount of coffee and water is not correct (1 scoop per 5oz/150ml), the grind size is too fine, there is too much ground coffee in the basket, no paper filter is in the basket, or paper is being put into the mesh basket filter. Check and correct each of these factors.
