What is the proper way to froth milk to create micro-foam?

Fill a chilled stainless steel milk pitcher with cold milk (around 39°F) to just below the spout. Ensure the steam has warmed up first (STEAM LIGHT fully ON), then position the steam wand arm at 12 o'clock in the pitcher spout with the tip at 3 o'clock, just under the milk surface to create a whirlpool. Introduce air with a gentle hissing sound (not screeching or gurgling). As the milk rises, lower the pitcher to keep the tip just below the surface. When you have the desired amount of foam, immerse the steam wand halfway down to heat all the milk and blend it together. Heat until the pitcher can only be held for 3 seconds (140-149°F), then gently tap and swirl the pitcher to release air bubbles and create a silky texture. (Page 12-13)
