What precautions should I take when measuring resistance or testing diodes?

Prior to testing resistance, diodes, or continuity, disconnect all power to the circuit and discharge all high-voltage capacitors. Additionally, do not apply voltage to the test leads when the multimeter is in the Ohms testing setting, as this can damage the multimeter.
