Unscrew Your Old Thermostat Take off the old thermostat faceplate by pulling it gently. 2. Switch Off Power Check that your heating/cooling system is turned off at the breaker box or switch. 3. Change Temperature Settings Set the temperature on your old thermostat to a high value in heat mode or low in cool mode. 4. Check for Power Wait 5 minutes and check if you hear the system turn on. Note: If you have a digital thermostat with no display, skip this step. 5. Remove Wires Do not touch any wires yet; make sure there are no 120/240V wires. Check your wiring: - Do you see thick black wires with wire nuts? - Is your thermostat 120V or higher? If yes, take a picture of your wiring and note the terminal colors. 6. Label Wires Use the wire labels provided to label each wire if necessary. Record which R-wire(s) you have and write down their color. Mark the wires connected to terminals next to the check mark with their color. 7. Remove Old Wall Plate Disconnect the wires and remove the old wall plate using a screwdriver. Wrap the wires around a pencil to prevent them from falling back into the wall. 8. Install New Thermostat Insert the wire bundle through the UWP and make sure at least 1/4 inch of each wire is exposed. Install the wall anchors, marking their location with a pencil. Level the wall plate and drill holes for the anchors. Insert the anchors, ensuring they are flush with the wall. 9. Set Up New Thermostat Set the R-switch position based on your wiring notes. Insert the R-wire(s) into the inner holes of the terminals on the UWP. will stay in place once the wire is inserted. NOTE: Alternate wiring options are shown on pages 11-12. To connect remaining wires, depress tabs to put wires into inner holes of corresponding terminals on UWP (one wire per terminal). Verify wires are secure by gently tugging on them. Tip: Release a wire by pushing down the corresponding terminal tab. Confirm wiring matches snapshot taken in Step 5. Install batteries and attach thermostat. Snap thermostat into place and turn power ON at breaker box or switch. Follow steps to set up system, personalizing options as needed. Repeat until all System Setup options are set, then press Done. The thermostat will save and exit to the home screen. To re-enter System Setup from Home Screen, press Menu button for 5 seconds. System operation settings: cycle through modes (Auto, Heat, Cool, Em Heat, Off) using Mode button. Fan operation settings: cycle through fan modes (Auto, On) using Fan button. To begin, move the tab to the down position (2 wires). Next, connect the R wire to the Rc terminal, and the RH wire to the R terminal. If your old thermostat had only one C or C1 wire, attach it to the C terminal. However, if it had two C or C1 wires, wrap each individually with electrical tape and do not connect them. Note that C does not provide power to the thermostat's display or operations; batteries are always necessary. For heat pump wiring, match each labeled wire with the same letter on your new thermostat. Insert the wires into their corresponding terminals. If you encounter difficulties inserting wires, you may need to press down the terminal push button adjacent to the corresponding terminal. If the labels do not match the letters on the thermostat, refer to "Alternate wiring (conventional systems)" above. For alternate wiring (specific to heat pumps only), keep the R Slider Tab in the up position (1 wire). If your old thermostat had both V and VR wires, stop now and contact a qualified contractor for assistance. If it had separate O and B wires, attach the B wire to the C terminal. However, if another wire is attached to the C terminal, stop now and contact a qualified contractor for help. Additionally, if your old thermostat had Y1, W1, and W2 wires, stop now and contact a qualified contractor for help. Remember that C does not power the thermostat display or operations; batteries are always required. This model does not support the heat pump fault alert (L/A terminal). If this feature is desired, please contact a contractor for a replacement model. Battery Replacement Batteries provide power to your thermostat. Install fresh batteries immediately when the low battery icon appears. This icon will appear about two months before the batteries are depleted. Even if the low battery icon does not appear, replace batteries once a year or before leaving home for more than a month. If batteries are inserted within two minutes, you will not need to reset the time and day. All other settings are permanently stored in memory and do not require battery power. Alerts Screen You will see the alert icon and the alert number on your screen. Press Next (+) to view additional alerts, if any. Then press Done to return to the home screen. Note that if the alert is critical, you may not be able to access the home screen and should call a HVAC professional. Alerts Codes Troubleshooting If you encounter difficulties with your thermostat, try the following suggestions. Most problems can be corrected quickly and easily. Display is blank: Ensure fresh AA alkaline batteries are properly installed (see page 7). Cannot change system setting to Cool: Check System Setup Option 220 to ensure options are set to either 1 or 2 (see page 9). Fan does not turn on when heat is required: Check System Setup Option 205 to ensure it matches your heating equipment (see page 9). Heating system is running in cool mode: Check System Setup Option 200 or 218 to ensure it matches your heating and cooling equipment (see page 9). Heating or cooling system does not respond: Press Menu and then Mode to set the system to Heat. Ensure the temperature is set higher than the Inside temperature. Press Menu and then Mode to set the system to Cool. Ensure the temperature is set lower than the Inside temperature. Check the circuit breaker and reset if necessary. Make sure heater switch is turned on, furnace door closed tight, then wait five minutes for system to react. If screen shows "Heat On / Cool On" flashing, compressor protection feature has kicked in; let it restart safely after five minutes. Check System Setup Options 200 or 218 if heat pump blows cool air when set for heat mode, or warm air when set for cool mode, to ensure correct setup matching your heating and cooling equipment (see page 9).
