How do I prevent odors in my washing machine?

Always follow the detergent manufacturer's instructions and never use more than the recommended amount. Use warm and hot wash water settings sometimes (not exclusively cold water), and always leave the washer lid open between uses to help dry out the washer and prevent odor-causing residue buildup. Additionally, promptly remove garments after the cycle completes.
