Why is my washer not draining or spinning properly?

Small items may be caught in the pump or between the basket and tub, the load may be tightly packed or unbalanced, or the drain hose may be improperly installed or extend more than 4.5" (114 mm) into the standpipe. Too much detergent causing excess suds can also slow or stop draining and spinning.
