Common Questions
28 totalHow do I create a speed-dial entry for frequently used fax numbers?
Press the Setup button, select Fax Setup and then Phone Book, select Add/Edit, choose an unassigned number for the new entry and press OK, then use the keypad to enter the fax number and press OK, and finally enter a name for the entry using the keypad.
What information does the HP Device Toolbox provide about my printer's supplies?
The Home tab of HP Device Toolbox shows the Supplies Status section which displays the approximate percent life remaining of HP supplies. It also allows you to print the supplies status page that the product generates. Note that actual supply life remaining can vary and you should consider having a replacement supply available when print quality is no longer acceptable.
How do I replace the toner cartridge in the M126?
The manual includes a section on replacing the toner cartridge (page 66), though specific step-by-step instructions are referenced but not fully detailed in the provided content. The manual also addresses handling of low toner messages and enabling/disabling the Very Low settings for cartridge warnings.
What paper sizes and types does the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M126 support?
The M126 supports paper sizes from Letter, Legal, A4, A5, A6, and various other international sizes down to custom sizes as small as 76 x 127 mm (3 x 5 in) up to 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14 in). Supported paper types include plain, colored, recycled, bond, labels, envelopes, letterhead, preprinted, prepunched, and various weights from light (60–74g) to extra heavy (131–175g).
How do I load paper in the input tray correctly?
Load the paper face-up with the top edge forward in the input tray, then adjust the paper guides until they are snug against the paper. When adding new paper, remove all existing paper from the tray and straighten the stack without fanning the paper, as this reduces jams by preventing multiple sheets from feeding through at once.
What should I do if I need to print on paper smaller than 185 mm (7.3 in)?
Use the short-paper extender tool that is stored in a slot on the right side of the input area. Remove the tool, attach it to the paper length guide on the input tray, load the paper, and then push the paper length guide in so the extender tool supports the paper.

● Toner is smearing on the printed pages. ● Printed characters seem misformed. ● Printed pages are curled. Always use a paper type and weight that this product supports. In addition, follow these guidelines when selecting paper: ● Use paper that is of good quality and free of cuts, nicks, tears, spots, loose particles, dust, wrinkles, voids, staples, and curled or bent edges. ● Use paper that has not been previously printed on. ● Use paper that is designed for use in laser printers. Do not use paper that is designed only for use in inkjet printers. ● Use paper that is not too rough. Using smoother paper generally results in better print quality.
